SPIKE SHOES FROM THE STEEL FACTORY
The personal story of museum founder János Angyal about this pair of sport shoes
One of the cabinets displays a pair of very old, black spike shoes which I guarded at the kit room of my sports club SKSE for decades. These shoes were made for our then-contemporary athletes in 1936 at the workshop for protective clothing in the Steel Factory of Salgótarján.
The shoes remind me of how great innovative developments formed the currently used spike shoes: the hand-sewn shoes had steel spikes which were longer than 15 millimetres and fixed with an inflexible disc to the bottom of the shoes that would touch the ground.
